This project was developed in response to a live professional brief in collaboration with Wonderbly, an online publisher known for personalised books for children and adults. The challenge was to propose a new book format that extended beyond children’s storytelling while retaining Wonderbly’s core principle of customisation.
Our team proposed a personalised travel guide designed around the traveller rather than the destination alone. Instead of overwhelming users with exhaustive listings, the guide curates experiences based on individual interests, passions, and preferred modes of cultural engagement. Alongside essential travel information, the book highlights lesser-known locations and local perspectives, encouraging a more meaningful and immersive experience of place.
Customisation functions both as content and as process. Each guide is tailored to the recipient, with space for drawing, writing, and annotation, allowing the book to evolve during and after the journey. The object becomes part guide, part journal, fostering an ongoing dialogue between gifter, traveller, and future readers.
Within the project, I focused on illustration development alongside a peer, contributing to the visual language of the guide, while other team members led research and layout. Two distinct guidebooks were designed to demonstrate the range of aesthetic and narrative possibilities available through the customisation system.
